Author’s Note: I started writing this back in January of 2026, as a way to work through my thoughts on genAI, especially w.r.t. using it as part of a software development workflow. I kept working on it slowly, but never quite got around to finishing it. It’s been sitting untouched for long enough that I’m pushing it out of the nest to fly or crash on it’s merits.

The main points, and my concerns, have not changed over the intervening year. In fact, they’ve only gotten stronger as I’ve watched the AI bubble turn into a bonafide cult, and we see the rather remarkable changes in behavior that come from widespread usage of genAI in the general populace.
